Whether you are trying something new or returning to activities you love, we are here to make it happen.
What Is Community Access and Participation?
Community Access and Participation is a funded support category under the NDIS, sitting under Support Category 4: Assistance with Social and Community Participation. It is designed to help participants engage in social, recreational, and community activities that build skills, strengthen connections, and reduce isolation.
Funding can be accessed through two streams:
Core Supports - covers everyday assistance to attend and participate in activities, including support worker time and transport.
Capacity Building - covers skill development that helps you participate more independently over time, reducing the need for ongoing paid support.
Understanding which stream applies to your goals helps ensure your NDIS plan is structured in the most effective way

Why Community Participation Matters
Research by the National Disability Insurance Agency confirms that social and community participation gives participants a sense of belonging and connection, deeper relationships with friends and family, larger social networks, reduced isolation, and greater confidence in everyday community life.
For participants in Perth and across WA, consistent community engagement also opens pathways to employment, further education, and broader opportunities. The right support removes barriers and keeps them that way.
Is This Assistance Right for You?
Community access and participation support is available to NDIS participants in Perth and across Western Australia who want to engage more actively in their community. FAQ
What are you looking for?
Activities are based entirely on your interests and goals. Participants across Perth engage in everything from adaptive sports and arts programmes to social clubs, volunteering, and community courses. We work with you to find options that are genuinely meaningful and locally accessible in WA.
Community Access and Participation focuses on supporting you to attend and engage in existing community activities. Innovative community participation goes further — focusing on creative, capacity-building approaches that develop skills and independence through tailored community engagement. Both can complement each other within your NDIS plan.
Yes. Transport to and from community activities can be funded as part of your community access and participation support — particularly where lack of transport is a barrier to participation. Speak with your NDIS planner about including this in your plan.
Raise it as a goal with your NDIS planner or local area coordinator at your next plan review. Be specific about the activities you want to access and why participation is important to your goals. Our Perth team can help you prepare by documenting your community participation needs and linking them to your NDIS outcomes.
